Camp Blog: Red, White & Moo, Pony Camp, and B.O.B. (Best of Both)
What a fantastic start to an exciting week at the farm! We were thrilled to welcome all of our campers for the first day of
Red, White & Moo, Little Wranglers Pony Camp, and B.O.B. (Best of Both).
Red, White & Moo
Monday was all about celebrating summer on the farm with our patriotic pals! Campers visited their favorite farm animals, enjoyed a cool snack while listening to a story, and created festive "Barn in the USA" picture frames to take home. Afterward, everyone climbed aboard the wagon for a ride to a shady pasture where we enjoyed lunch surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.
Our campers also became bird detectives! During our adventures, we spotted and heard:
Red-winged Blackbird
American Robin
Carolina Wren
Song Sparrow
Gray Catbird
Our full-day campers put their observation skills to the test during a farm-wide scavenger hunt, solving puzzles as they explored different areas of the property.
In the Garden Kitchen, campers learned about Johnny Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed. While many know him as the man who planted apple trees across the American frontier, campers were surprised to learn that he planted apple nurseries rather than simply scattering seeds. He was also known for his kindness, love of nature, and belief that planting trees would help future settlers. Inspired by his story, campers worked together to make homemade applesauce using just four simple ingredients: apples, sugar, water, and cinnamon. It was a delicious way to connect history, teamwork, and cooking!
🐴 Little Wranglers Pony Camp
Our Little Wranglers had an unforgettable first day getting to know our gentle equine friends. Campers learned important pony safety rules before meeting the ponies, taking their very first pony rides, and helping groom them with brushes and lots of care. To finish the day, everyone created a fun horseshoe craft to remember their pony adventures.
🌱 B.O.B. (Best of Both)
Our B.O.B. campers packed plenty of fun into their first day! They planted seeds in the garden, enjoyed a horse ride, explored the farm during a wagon ride, and visited all of our wonderful farm animals. It was the perfect introduction to everything the farm has to offer and a great start to a week filled with hands-on adventures.
We can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings!
