🐴 Pony School Adventures with Ms. Lou

Hi friends! I’m Ms. Lou, your Camp Coordinator and Equine Program Coordinator here at Bowers School Farm — and I’m so excited to share something truly special that’s been happening down at the barn: Pony School!

With a degree in Early Childhood Development and a lifelong love for horses, I’ve always dreamed of bringing my two passions together — early learning and our wonderful equine friends. This fall, that dream came to life with our Pony School Classes, built especially for our youngest riders.

🌻 What Is Pony School?

Pony School is where fun, learning, and friendship meet — all with the help of our gentle, friendly ponies! Designed for preschool and early elementary-age children, each session offers hands-on experiences that spark curiosity, confidence, and a love for animals.

Every class begins with a farm-themed craft or activity, followed by time to groom and tack up our ponies — learning how to care for them, brush their soft coats, and get them ready to ride. Then we head to the arena for a pony obstacle course, where our young riders practice balance, steering, and communication — all while having a blast!

We end our time together with a story time or wagon ride around the farm, soaking in the sights and sounds of Bowers — from the rustling leaves to the gentle clip-clop of hooves.

🍎 This Season’s Pony School Themes

Each week brought a new adventure and a new way for our riders to connect with the farm and their pony pals!

🐴 Week 1: Meet the Ponies

We started our season by making new friends — both two-legged and four! Riders met our ponies, learned their names, brushed their manes, and discovered what makes ponies different from horses. (Fun fact: Ponies have thicker coats and shorter legs, making them extra cuddly and strong!)

🍏 Week 2: Apple Picking Ponies

Fall is apple season on the farm! Our riders explored how apples are a healthy treat for ponies and even helped pick a few for snacks and hand feed them a few treats. We made apple crafts, learned how ponies chew with their big molars, and of course, enjoyed a nice ride.

🌾 Week 3: Hayride Helpers

What’s a farm without hay? This week we learned where hay comes from and why it’s so important for our ponies. Kids helped load mini hay bales, practiced feeding time, and finished the day with a classic hayride around the fields.

🎃 Week 4: Ponies in the Pumpkin Patch

The pumpkin patch was full of fall magic! Riders guided their ponies through a pumpkin obstacle course, counted pumpkins along the way, and learned about farm harvest time. We even decorated adorable tiny pumpkins to take home!

👻 Week 5: Trick or Treat Trail Ride

Costumes, candy, and ponies — oh my! This week, our ponies took riders on a “trick or treat” trail ride through the pony obstacle course. Each stop offered fun surprises and lessons in sharing and friendship.

🦄 Week 6: Pony Costume Parade

We wrapped up Pony School in true celebration style — with a Pony Costume Parade and pony goodie bag! Riders and ponies dressed up in creative costumes and showed off their riding skills in front of family and friends.

🌟 Fun Pony Facts

Did you know?

  • Ponies can live to be 30 years old or more — that’s a lot of years of friendship!

  • Their hooves are made of keratin, the same material as your fingernails.

  • Ponies have excellent memories — once they know you, they won’t forget you!

💕 Why We Love Pony School

Pony School isn’t just about learning to ride — it’s about building confidence, compassion, and curiosity. Our young riders discover responsibility through caring for their ponies, courage in the saddle, and joy in every shared adventure.

Here at Bowers School Farm, we believe that children learn best through hands-on exploration, and Pony School gives them the chance to do just that — surrounded by nature, gentle animals, and friends.

So, if you have a little one who loves animals, outdoor adventures, and creative fun, come join us for our next round of Pony School Classes coming soon! We can’t wait to welcome you to the barn and introduce you to our amazing ponies. 🐴💛
