Fence Post Frosty

Looking for a fun winter project for kids and adults alike? We’ve got you covered. This snowman can survive any weather conditions and makes a cute winter decoration.

A quick trip to a home/craft store and you will be ready to go! Adult supervision is needed for young children, but it’s a great project to do together.

Gather Materials:

Cut piece of fence post (6-12”) whatever size you wish

*check the scrap wood area, you might find what you need there. Or buy one inexpensive post and have several Frosty forms cut.

White and orange acrylic paint and sponge brushes

Thin dowel rod (cut for nose, about 3”)

Old sock (for hat) the more colorful, the better!

Old buttons (for eyes and belly) they don’t need to match

Approx. 1 yard  strip of old cloth, fleece or ribbon (for scarf)

Black Sharpie pen (for “coal” mouth)

Glue gun

Scissors

Newspaper or other table covering

Paper plate

Water

Hand drill with bit to match the dowel size

How To:

Cover your work area

Drill hole for nose (adult job, or kid with assistance)

Plug in glue gun (adult)

Paint dowel “nose” orange, set aside to dry

Squeeze about a half dollar size glob of white paint on a paper plate, water it down so paint is thin

Using the sponge brush “whitewash” the four sides of the fencepost, no need to paint top or bottom

It does not have to be perfect -  Let it dry

When post and nose are dry:

Stretch sock (hat) over the top of the fence post. Tie a knot in the toe if you like, so it is like a stocking cap.

Put a dot of hot glue on end of nose and insert into drilled hole

Put a dot of hot glue on the buttons and place where you want them for eyes and belly

Use sharpie to make mouth shape coal dots, or if you want to use small black buttons, you could use them for the mouth

Tie the scarf around the neck, trim excess material if needed

Say HELLO to your new Frosty Friend!
